Minister pushes Nova Scotia Loyal program, Trump pauses tariff threat
“The program as it has rolled out so far, insofar as it supported our farm markets, that has been a good initiative, but the rest still needs a lot of work to truly be effective in facing the kind of threat that we have at the moment,” Opposition and NDP Leader Claudia Chender said.
“On the shelf, in the grocery store, we need to know what’s Nova Scotian, we need to help promote our farm markets and our farm producers, particularly at this time of year, in getting their products out. We have lots of people who are selling local seafood, local meat and poultry, all of this needs a boost and the provincial government is in a position to do that.”
Chender said shopping patterns have changed in the present “culture of convenience,” with shoppers frequenting big box stores and shopping online.
“We have to make it as easy as possible for people to identify local products and then find the channels to purchase those products,” Chender said. “That’s essentially a promotional campaign and one that we really need to put a lot of effort into at this moment.”
