April weather may be unpredictable, but there’s something hopeful about knowing that the cold and snow are temporary and that the warmth of spring is just around the corner. We’re already seeing flowers begin to bloom, and before long, Dartmouth South patios will be open and buzzing again.
With the Legislative Session wrapped up, I’ve been grateful to spend more time back in the riding. I recently met with the Executive Director of the Dartmouth Seniors Service Centre and got the inside scoop on their exciting upcoming programming. I also had the chance to celebrate a phenomenal season with the Dartmouth Curling Club—so many well-earned wins and community spirit on full display! And yes, I finally made it to The Sourdough Stand for some baked goods and a quick hello to the woman behind the magic.
Right now, we’re in the thick of Burger Week! This is such a fun (and delicious) way to support local restaurants while helping fundraise for Feed Nova Scotia. Participating spots offer special burgers at a set price, donating a portion of sales with each one sold—don’t miss it!
While you're out and about, be sure to check out The Craig Gallery’s current exhibit: The Belvedere Exhibition by Corey J. Isenor. It's a striking visual reflection on five years of exploring and photographing landscapes throughout HRM.
And coming soon to the Sanctuary Arts Centre: Even Star and Beyond – Celtic Songs in Movies. This beautiful performance blends traditional Celtic music with beloved film soundtracks—an evening sure to stir both memory and imagination.
While we celebrate spring and community connection, we can’t ignore the ongoing housing crisis. Right now, 212 families in Nova Scotia are living in provincially funded hotel rooms—spaces that lack kitchens, privacy, and room for children to grow, play, or study. No family should be living in such conditions. We need deeply affordable, non-market housing now—and we need it built with urgency.
Despite the challenges we face, I continue to be inspired by the passion, engagement, and leadership of our community. The Elbows Up rally at Alderney Landing this weekend was an excellent example of this, as was the peaceful gathering at Sullivan’s Pond. Thank you to everyone who attended, and to everyone who reaches out, shares your concerns, and pushes for solutions. Your special interests matter to me, and I am so grateful for your voices.
