There are always things to do in Dartmouth South, and there are plenty of upcoming events to bring us together. Check out our Community Events section below for information on the latest performances and exhibits at Alderney Landing, Sanctuary Arts Centre, and Eastern Front Theatre, including the exciting upcoming remount of the play Fat Juliet. The Dartmouth Seniors Service Centre also has a full schedule of activities to keep you connected. Whether it’s theatre, music, or community gatherings, there’s always something happening in our neighborhood—hope to see you out and about! And of course I hope to see everyone tomorrow (March 8th) Downtown, for We Love Downtown Dartmouth day!
Democracy isn’t just about elections—it’s about everyday Nova Scotians shaping the future of our province. Even in a supermajority, your voice matters. Government should reflect the will of the people, not the other way around. At Province House, the current legislative session has been underway since February 14th and will resume after the break. Many of you have contacted me to ask about issues related to democratic accountability in Bill 1, lifting the ban on fracking and uranium mining in Bill 6, changes to university governance in Bill 12, and other issues that have come forward. People also have many questions about the Financial Measures Act related to the impact of possible tariffs and the plans to mitigate them.
Your voice matters! The government has already indicated they will bring forward amendments for many of these bills based on public and opposition pressure. Now more than ever, it is important to make your voice heard. These bills all came as a surprise on the heels of an election that did not consider them at all. If you have an opinion to share, I encourage you to sign up to speak at the Public Bills Committee by calling 902-424-8941.
As always, my office is here to listen, support, and fight for what matters to you. Together, we can ensure that our voices continue to shape the future of Nova Scotia and our beautiful Dartmouth community.
As always, if you need assistance, please reach out to my office at 902-406-2301 or claudiachendermla@gmail.com.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Claudia
