Mombourquette told journalists if there is no clear rationale for the need to fire civil servants without cause, that provision should be axed from the legislation. 

Chender agrees. A law school graduate from Dalhousie University, she’s critical of the way these omnibus bills have been presented. 

“This government is terrible at legislating. They bring forward lazy, sloppy pieces of legislation that they then have to constantly amend and explain,” Chender said. “And Bill 1, as worded, says public servants can be dismissed without cause notwithstanding the provisions of the Labour Code. That is deeply concerning for any worker in this province.”
