Houston challenging Ottawa's plan to send asylum seekers to N.S.
NDP Leader Claudia Chender said the premier is playing a "dangerous rhetorical game" by taking aim at the federal government at the expense of people desperately needing help.
"When we talk about limiting the ability of asylum seekers to settle in Nova Scotia it may be directed as a criticism at the federal government; it may be directed as criticism of government . . . but it lives as xenophobia and racism on the ground.
"There’s no place for that, that’s not who we are as Nova Scotians."
Chender said the premier needs to show leadership.
"I think the NDP is fighting for what we have always been consistently been fighting for, which is adequate housing and health care for everyone," said Chender.
"I think the government has the capacity to do much more than they’re doing to ensure that we can all afford to be here."
