N.S. MLAs called back to legislature to block their raises
“. . .
NDP Leader Claudia Chender said MLAs should tackle more pressing issues than pay raises when they return next week. Chender said they should address health-care issues such as ER closures, as well as the housing crisis that continues to see people sleeping in tents across the province.
“Instead, the country’s third highest paid Premier wants to recall the legislature to protect his own salary and block a recommendation to support child care in the House of Assembly, unfairly targeting women and young parents,” she said in a statement. “We are ready to roll up our sleeves and get to work for families struggling during these uncertain times. It’s why we were elected.”
She said the raises could be addressed in the fall, and they should have a full session now to “properly address the needs of Nova Scotians.”
