Summer is heating up, both literally and figuratively! While the beautiful weather brings us plenty of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors, the current heatwave also poses challenges. Remember to stay hydrated and take breaks in the shade or indoors. Check here for up to date information about beaches, outdoor pools, splash pads and whether they’re safe for swimming!
Pride events are in full swing across the province, and the excitement is palpable! Check out the calendar for a list of events happening on both sides of the harbour. I will be walking in the parade and am looking forward to seeing so many proud Nova Scotians supporting each other.
As I connect with folks in our community, I am hearing more and more about the struggles Nova Scotians face with rising housing costs and the pressing need for better healthcare. Although some new health spending has been announced, we need system-wide improvements in primary care, emergency care, and mental health services. Over 160,000 Nova Scotians are on the need-a-family-practice waitlist, highlighting a critical issue. Every Nova Scotian deserves to be connected to a Family Doctor Clinic in their community, receiving collaborative care from a team of professionals who monitor their health as needed. It’s unacceptable that healthcare workers are waiting on immigration applications and being pushed out due to lack of childcare. This issue is pervasive across Nova Scotia, and we must address it urgently.
On a brighter note, Farmers’ Market Week is approaching, a grassroots celebration of farmers’ markets across Nova Scotia. Visit a participating market for special events, giveaways, promotions, and more! Last week, I had the pleasure of visiting the Mabou Farmers Market in Cape Breton, and it was an incredible experience. These markets are amazing and necessary community hubs.
Additionally, there is an amazing team of volunteers traveling Nova Scotia to spread awareness and support for the Coastal Protection Act. If you’re passionate about this cause and would like to be involved, please reach out to my office.
Natal Day is just around the corner, and I can’t wait to celebrate Dartmouth with all of you! Please contact my office if you’d like to walk with me in the parade. I’d love to see you there and share in the festivities!
