You know the holiday season has begun when the North Woodside Community Center hosts the annual Kris Kringle pancake breakfast and craft fair. This kickoff to the season is one my office never misses and it was so heartwarming to see a lineup of guests out the door, to connect with residents of Southdale and beyond, and to pick up some amazing gifts and stocking stuffers! As Centre Manager Debby Meier said, “It feels just like the old days.” |

Speaking of holiday events, save the date for my annual holiday gathering! If you haven’t had the chance to get out to the brand new Kiwanis building at Grahams Grove, now is your chance.
Come for a treat and a coffee and a catch up before the holidays. As always, we’re hosting a holiday breakfast on Friday, December 15th from 8:30am - 10:30am. |

Getting out in the community is the best part of my job. Dartmouth is growing and while this doesn’t come without it’s challenges, our community continues to be a place where we care about one another and where people show up to support each other. |
| The Dartmouth Community Fridge winter warm up last Sunday marked a resounding success. Their 10-day campaign raised $13,451, which beats their stretch goal of $10,000 and will fill the fridge daily for nearly three months. Congratulations to the fabulous team working on this much-needed resource. |
| | Dartmouth continues to attract new businesses. A little late to this one, but if you’ve been to Aroma Maya in the old Robin’s location on Prince Albert Road, you’ll know it’s been extremely popular and busy. Welcome to Dartmouth! 🤫 You may just see a few of their products at my holiday gathering! |

Did you know that Dartmouth had its very own secret society in the early 1900s?
The Secret Society of the N.O.D. (quite possibly stood for Nuns of Dartmouth) was a group of young girls who met weekly to discuss the latest happenings in Dartmouth, to sew, and share poetry and art. They recorded their minutes at every meeting and chose alternate names. The original members seemed to be Sister Dorothy, Sister Eva, Sister Ruth, and Sister Veronica (who later changed her name to Sister Helen). They even released a newspaper called the N.O.D. Critic that they hand wrote and distributed to their neighbours. Members included girls from the Allen, Creighton, and Austen families. |
| The above story is from the Dartmouth Heritage Museum Facebook page. They are fundraising to buy three new dehumidifiers for their heritage buildings: Quaker House and Evergreen House. High humidity can cause mould growth, which is detrimental to artifacts and people. Help ensure we keep our history alive. | |

| Christ Church Food Bank
The volunteers at the Christ Church food bank are working hard to help out Dartmouth families who are struggling during this cost-of-living crisis.
This year’s Christmas Hamper program will ensure 125 families in our community are able to have a holiday feast.
Each family will receive: meal ingredients, kitchen supplies, a grocery gift card, and a WalMart gift card. The food bank is also giving out holiday decorations like lights, baubles, napkins, etc. If you have new or very gently used items that you would like to donate to help bring some holiday cheer, they would be welcome.
If you would like to support the Christ Church food bank by donating goods or financially, please reach out to Marg Seaman at 902-478-3564 or email to mseaman@accesswave.ca. |
