Back to school plans, Eisner Cove Wetland, and reporting

A lot of good news has been coming out of Dartmouth South recently. Canoe 22 was an amazing success, the Park Avenue Community Oven has finally reopened, and so did the Shirley's Splash pad on the Dartmouth Common. These community events and resources are all thank to volunteers and Dartmouthians who made them happen and keep them going. Thank you!

Eisner Cove

Eisner Cove Wetland was back in the news as Clayton Developments began clearing the site. I have written to the Executive Panel on Housing asking them to cease clearing until a clear plan is approved. I remain in close touch with the Protect Eisner Wetland group, am following the events as they unfold, and continue to advocate for an environmentally sensitive approach to building truly affordable housing with community consultation.

Numbers and back to school

While we enjoy the last few weeks of summer holiday, many parents are wondering what a return to school looks like. As yet, nothing has been announced by the Province. Over the last few weeks post-secondary institutions have been making the move to require masks on their campuses. Meanwhile, we haven't heard anything about Covid precautions for the coming school year, from ventilation to masking to booster shots. Cases are still high, updates about HVAC upgrades are scarce, access to emergency and primary care is abysmal, and paid sick days are not guaranteed, leaving parents very worried for the coming fall. My colleagues and I continue to press for answers.

Report & Support

If you test positive for COVID-19 on either a rapid or a PCR test, the NSHA is asking you to please fill in the Report & Support screening form. This form is used to assess Nova Scotians who may be eligible for treatment. Medications can only be administered within the first week of symptoms developing so it is essential to complete the form as soon as possible.

If Nova Scotians have even mild symptoms of COVID-19, they should complete the following steps:

Step 1: Book a COVID-19 test (PCR or rapid), or take a rapid test at home.
Step 2: If your test is positive, complete the Report and Support screening form.
Step 3: If you get a phone call from an unknown number within a few days of completing your Report and Support form, answer it. It may be one of our treatment team prescribers calling to talk to you.

Wishing everyone a warm, safe, and restful end of the summer. As always, please don't hestitate to reach out to our office with any information or assistance you may need.

Warm regards,

Claudia
