Chender said there are policies the Houston government could adopt that might make housing more affordable and keep more young people here.

“There is almost no path to home ownership in this province any more,” said Chender. “That’s why we are proposing a renter’s tax credit; that’s why proposing expanding the down payment assistance program. But the reality is 42% of people in HRM are renters; 30% percent of people in the province are renters, and this is a population that is being abandoned by this government.”
