NDP want to give Nova Scotians a break on gas taxes, make Halifax ferries free

NDP Leader Claudia Chender made those announcements during a press conference in front of the Halifax Forum on Monday.

“The New Democrats know you need to get to work on time. You should be able to commute quickly, efficiently, and affordably throughout our cities and across the province,” Chender said.

“We need a functional network of transit for our province and one that actually works for Nova Scotians. Free ferries will get more vehicles off the Halifax harbour bridges… and save the average ferry user more than $1,000 a year.”

Chender said the party would work with the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) to make transit more reliable with more rapid bus lines and ferry routes. HRM’s Rapid Transit Strategy includes four new bus rapid transit (BRT) lines and three new ferry routes.
