NDP Leader Claudia Chender told SaltWire the NDA outlaw bill is still on the order papers and could be passed on the first day the legislature returns in six to eight weeks, should the Conservatives choose to support it.
“In light of all this continuing conversation, what is clear to our caucus is that we need to stop these NDAs from silencing victims and perpetuating abuse which we know from scandals like Hockey Canada and other very famous scandals around the world happen,” Chender said.
She also said if the government wants to introduce its own version, the Opposition is willing to support it.
She noted the NDP’s legislation isn’t retroactive.
“It’s doubly confusing and upsetting that they refuse to consider it without any rationale,” Chender said
“There’s no explanation for why the government has flip-flopped on this matter.”
She said it raises a disturbing question why the Conservatives aren’t supporting it.
