Nova Scotians can apply for expanded heating assistance rebate until March 31
“. . .
Still, a fear exists that people will fall through the cracks of the expanded program because of a lack of awareness.
“When I took over the leadership in June, in my very first speech, I pushed for direct assistance for Nova Scotians, with how hard it is to make ends meet right now,” NDP Leader Claudia Chender said last week.
“Finally in December, we saw the government come out with what by all accounts could be a pretty impactful program,” Chender said, adding that the expanded rebate and threshold are both in line with what the NDP had suggested.
“But it was announced on a Friday in December and I think a lot of people missed it,” Chender said. “For our caucus, we have spent a huge amount of time trying to promote that program through social media, through speaking engagements, whatever we can. I would love to see the government spending a little bit more time promoting that because there are so many people who need that and can take advantage of it and of course it’s available to everybody who pays for their own heat, whether they rent their home or they own it.”
