Nova Scotia NDP Leader Claudia Chender argued Houston was focusing on the wrong issues.

"Families are struggling to afford groceries, and to fill up the gas tank to get to work. Seniors are faced with decisions about how to afford their medications and the rising cost of housing. Tim Houston is out of touch with the needs of everyday people," Chender said last month.

"He needs to stop handing over high-paying jobs to his personal friends and start focusing on the needs of people who are doing their best to make ends meet.”
