Nova Scotia announces plan to overhaul HRM health facilities, add 423 hospital beds in 10 years

The opposition parties say the missing cost is a major concern.
“At first blush, I think the plan sounds great,” said NDP Leader Claudia Chender. “We all want the VG to be a thing of the past right now, we know that there are increased pressures, we know that our population is growing.”
Chender said it’s absurd for government to assert that questions about the cost are misplaced.
“People want to understand how much it’s going to cost, what the impact will be on the provincial budget and that the money is being spent well,” Chender said. “Everyone agrees that this project needs to move forward but everyone deserves the transparency of understanding how.”
Chender said the NDP is also concerned about a decision to go forward with public-private hospital redevelopment projects.
“All of our research shows that auditor generals across the country have consistently pointed to P3s being a flawed process for health-care delivery, they don’t transfer private risk, they don’t have clear accountability and it’s hard to understand how an open procurement with a single bidder is going to deliver anything better than a conventional project.
