Nova Scotia legislation makes end of coal power by 2030 questionable, Emera says
“. . .
NDP Leader Claudia Chender said the party has had questions about the Atlantic Loop for years, and “we have several times asked this government and Nova Scotia Power ‘What’s Plan B?’ We’ve heard ‘Oh, there’s Plan B, there’s Plan B,’ but we’ve never heard what it is.”
A delay in the project is concerning, she said.
“We need to meet our targets. We’ve been saying for quite some time that our power needs to be reliable, it needs to be affordable, and it needs to be green. That’s something that’s not coming out of the premier’s mouth, and it’s very important.”
Chender said Nova Scotians need to be able to afford power, “and the way that we can do that is to meet our environmental targets, which legislatively Nova Scotia Power is required to meet. So if it’s not the Atlantic Loop, we look forward to hearing what it is.””
