Committee members Claudia Chender and Susan Leblanc, New Democratic Party MLAs, and Liberal MLA Patricia Arab all asked the deputy minister Wednesday why the department would not order such an audit.

Chender asked if the department was clear about how much money had been misappropriated and what happened to those funds, but Czapalay and Nancy Hoddinott, senior executive director of skills and learning with the Labour Department, said they were not able to provide those details.

Czapalay said the vast majority of contract funding covers salaries and rents.

“A forensic audit by the Office of the Auditor General would in fact be public,” Chender said. “It’s important for the public to understand what happened to those funds.”
