Implementing Lahey report cannot be done at 'flick of the switch,' says minister of Natural Resources
“. . .
NDP Natural Resources and Renewables spokesperson Claudia Chender said the 2023 timeline for full implementation of the report is ‘puzzling.’
‘That report came out years ago now. And it was very much our assumption that once the report was tabled, some effort towards implementation would begin and we know that that work has happened internally in the department,’ Chender said in an interview with the Post.
‘We know, for example, that the guides are ready to go. And yet first the Liberal government and now the Conservative government continue to delay in its implementation.’
Chender said this is one of the reasons people may feel jaded about government processes.
‘I think it, in a way, confirms the sort of worst view people have, which is that … governments don't actually want to do things, they study them. And that study may or may not result in any action.’”
