“I think what’s really troubling is that we haven’t even heard our premier acknowledge that there is an issue. So, Nova Scotia is one of the only provinces that didn’t have and doesn’t have daycare for essential workers. We know what some of those essential workers have lost their jobs already because they had to decide between going to work and taking care of children or family members, which is not a real decision at all.
And so I think first what we need to hear is that our government acknowledges that this is an issue. That there are many, many, many people who are going to have to choose between workforce participation and caregiving. And then we need accommodations to be made and, hopefully, big strides towards childcare options that comply with Public Health.”
