In September 2018, Chender tabled a private member's bill to eliminate covenants that restrict access to food or medicine.

“The Halifax city council has tried to tackle that issue with the Mobile Food Market initiative, but it would help the city to know that there won't be any restrictive covenants allowed, contributing to food deserts,” Chender said.

The bill hasn't moved past first reading since it was tabled.
