NDP Dartmouth South MLA Claudia Chender also suggested that the spending spree reflected a government preparing for the polls. She pointed to Nova Scotia being the only province without a fixed election date. One of the consequences is opposition parties and residents are left guessing about the party’s spending motives, she said.
‘I think it’s time for us to have a consistent system that everyone can plan for and understand, that is insured against political stunts,’ said Chender.
She also zeroed in on the $166 million budgeted in the plan to buy P3-model schools while containing no investment for affordable housing.
‘We could have invested in these schools 20 years ago and not on our books today …. People are struggling to meet their basic needs and put a roof over their heads. We saw nothing in this capital plan for housing.’”
