Legislative proposals have also been made in the Nova Scotia period justice movement — most notably Bill 154, An Act Respecting Free Menstrual Products, introduced by NDP MLA Claudia Chender in September. This legislation would amend the Occupational Health and Safety Act to require employers to provide free menstrual products in their workplaces and in their public washrooms. As Chender said at the time, “Passing this legislation would be a powerful step to recognizing that menstrual products are as necessary as toilet paper and hand soap.”
