Minister lacks resolve to end street checks, El Jones says
“. . .
NDP Dartmouth South MLA Claudia Chender has been a fierce opponent of street checks and has pushed the minister to ban the practice. On Friday, she reiterated her stance in Province House, calling on Furey and the government to ‘stop a discriminatory, heavy-handed, illegal and incidentally heavily bureaucratic process.’
Jones said the government is indifferent to protecting the human rights of black Nova Scotians.
‘Furey and this government have shown a complete refusal to use the power they have to stop this right now,’ she said.
‘If you don’t have the will to stop it, you don’t care.’”
