July had fewer visitors than in 2017
“Claudia Chender, provincial NDP business critic and MLA for Dartmouth South, said more concerning for her than slightly slower tourism growth in 2018 compared to 2017 is the way that tourism is spread out.
‘The trend is the concentration of tourism dollars in Halifax and Yarmouth and Acadian Shores and the fairly steep declines we’re seeing in all of the other areas of the region,’ she said.
‘Nova Scotia Tourism, I would argue, has a role to play in helping tourism operators across the province, particularly in more rural areas.’
She said the province is full of hidden gems that would make excellent places for visitors to explore, something she would like to see the province focus on more as it continues to grow its tourism industry.”
