Fall is here, almost...

*|MC:SUBJECT|*

Fall is here and with it comes lots of events and avenues to engage with and support the community!

The first Halifax International Fleet Week runs from now until September 10th. There will be lots to see on the Halifax and Dartmouth waterfront and New Scotland Brewing will host the Fleet Week Ceilidh on Saturday, September 9th from starting at 7:00PM. Find our more here!

With back to school comes some added stresses for families, luckily our community is here to help. Christ Church has been distributing backpacks, and if you want to contribute, it’s not too late—there are drop off bins at 50 Wentworth St.

When it comes to school lunches, the Dartmouth Community Fridge has put out a request for people who are able to contribute some snacks that could be included in lunches, and speaking of the Community Fridge, they are having their anniversary bash on Sunday September 17th from 2-4. Plan to drop by if you can and bring some groceries if you’re able or help yourself if you’re not.

Seniors Care Grant is Now Open!

The Seniors Care Grant helps low-income seniors with the cost of household services (like lawn care, snow removal, grocery delivery, transportation, small home repairs and phone service), healthcare services (like physiotherapy and mental health support) and home heating. Grants are $750 for each household. You can apply until 31 March 2024.

Winter Illnesses

With schools back in session and folks moving inside for cold weather, flu and other respiratory infections will be on the rise. Dr. Lisa Barrett, infectious disease expert, spoke with the CBC about what we can expect with regard to COVID. A reminder that my office is still providing free COVID-19 tests for anyone who would like them.

Recognize a Community Member

The fall session of the Legislature has not yet been announced but we are gearing up for an exciting session. Remember that part of my time in the legislature is used to officially recognize groups and individuals in our community who are doing exceptional work or meet significant milestones.

These statements are read in the House and recorded in Hansard, the official record of debates and proceedings of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. Read some of my past statements here.

If you would like me to recognize an outstanding person, organization, event, or milestone in Dartmouth South, please let me know by filling out this form.

As always, if you need assistance, please reach out to my office at 902-406-2301 or claudiachendermla@gmail.com.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Claudia
